The music industry has constantly been evolving, but the rate of change is accelerating. The digital era offers new platforms to share and promote music while cutting out many middlemen. As a result, artists find ways to produce and distribute their content while building an audience through social media.

Technology has been credited with making wicked musical popular through the internet. You no longer need to rely on radio stations or television networks for exposure; instead, all you need is an internet connection. The article will detail some other ways technology has shaped the music industry.

Music Production

manAs mentioned earlier in the article, technology has been changing the music industry in many ways. One of these ways is how music is produced. The days of spending thousands on an album are over because it’s just not necessary anymore. Anyone who wants to get into the industry can do so with the right music production software or phone application.

Music studios these days do not have the many instruments, microphones, tracks, and other equipment that was once needed. It’s now possible for artists to record their music using programs like GarageBand or Pro Tools at home with just a computer.

Since producing music has been simplified by technology, there is more music out there than ever before. Music videos are also easier to produce. Artists can shoot short videos on their phones and edit them with an app like iMovie.

Music Distribution

woman The second-way technology has changed the industry is how music distribution works. The internet allows artists to easily get their songs out there for everyone to listen to without going through a recording label or other gatekeepers of the past. With the rise of online music streaming platforms like Spotify and Pandora, artists can make money directly from their listeners.

People can discover new music easier than ever before since they’re constantly flooded with new songs on these platforms. It is rather remarkable that people used to buy music on tapes and cassettes, now people can listen to basically anything for free on music streaming apps. Technology has allowed artists who wouldn’t have otherwise had a chance in the past to be heard by millions around the world.

The music industry has been a battleground for the last decade as technology keeps evolving. But I’m sure that you, like me, are excited to see what comes next. One day we may be able to watch an artist perform live from their bedroom with virtual reality headsets and feel like they’re actually on stage in front of us. Who knows? All we can do is wait and see how this all unfolds; in the meantime, keep rocking out.
